Cockchafer. Also known as the May Bug, cockchafers are large, clumsy-looking beetles that emerge in spring and early summer. They spend much of their adult lives feeding on leaves, flying around noisily and generally being rather conspicuous. They’re instantly recognisable by their chunky bodies and beautiful fan-shaped antennae. I love the slightly prehistoric look of them like a tiny armoured creature that’s somehow managed to get very good at flying.

A note about handmade prints:

Each print is individually hand-printed, so no two prints will ever be completely identical. Small variations in ink coverage, pressure, texture and registration are a natural part of the linocut process, and you may notice tiny areas of ink, subtle marks or other little differences from one print to another. These are not flaws, but part of what makes each hand-pulled print unique.

The paper I use is also a beautiful handmade, fibrous cotton-rag paper, so you may see natural speckles, flecks and strands of different colours within the paper. These can sometimes be visible around the edges or through areas of the print. Each sheet has its own character, meaning every print is genuinely one of a kind.

By purchasing a handmade linocut print, you are embracing these natural variations and the individuality they bring to each piece.
